Advent: 6-10

I hope your advent devotionals are going well.  Ours are just like usual; some have been wonderful, some have been not wonderful.  Well, we do what we can.  Here are the next few days.

December 6th
What did Angel Gabriel say to Mary?

Luke 1:30-33

30And the angel said unto her, aFear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

31And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name aJESUS.

32He shall be great, and shall be called the aSon of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the bthrone of his fathercDavid:

33And he shall areign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no bend.

Mary is the mother of Jesus.  Who is His father?

Luke 1:35,37

35And the angel answered and said unto her, The aHoly Ghostshall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the bSon of God.
37For with God nothing shall be aimpossible.
Alma 7:10
10And behold, he shall be aborn of Mary, at bJerusalem which is the cland of our forefathers, she being a dvirgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and econceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.

December 8th.
Was Joseph a worthy guardian of Jesus?

Matthew 1:19-24

19Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick aexample, was bminded to cput her away privily.
20But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a adream, saying, Joseph, thou son ofbDavid, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the cHoly Ghost.
21And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his anamebJESUS: for he shall csave his people from their sins.
22Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23aBehold, a bvirgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his cname dEmmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his awife:
Matthew 2:13-14, 19-22
13And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
14When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:
19¶But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a adream to Joseph in Egypt,
20Saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and go into the aland of Israel: for they are dead which sought the young child’s life.
21And he arose, and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.
22But when he heard that Archelaus did reign in Judæa in thearoom of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither: notwithstanding, being warned of God in a bdream, he turned aside into the parts of Galilee:

Why did Joseph and Mary go to Bethlehem if they lived in Nazareth?

Luke 2:1-5

1And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all athe world should be btaxed.
2(And this ataxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.
4And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is calledaBethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5To be taxed with Mary his aespoused wife, being great with child.
(Also Micah 5:2; Matt 2:4-5 for a discussion of prophecy)

December 10th
Where was Jesus born?  Why does it matter where he was born?  What are swaddling
clothes?

Luke 2:7
7And she brought forth her afirstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the binn.
D&C 88:6
6He that aascended up on high, as also he bdescended below all things, in that he ccomprehended all things, that he might be in all and through all things, the dlight of truth;

I'm not sure what is going on with blogger tonight--the fonts are all odd.  I hope you can still figure out which scripture goes with which question.  Also, most of the songs are also a link to either the sheet music or a video feature that day's song.

Merry Christmas!
