The Kayak

While Justin was slaving away as a pharmacy student, one of the things that kept him going was the dream of living near pine trees again and of buying a kayak to goof around with on the lake.

This week, he finally got to buy his kayak.

We went to a lake a few minutes away and, even though it was a blustery day, we launched the new craft.  Justin immediately took off into the peace of quiet solitude.

The rest of us dinked around in the shallows, playing with the puppy.

Knowing we only had a couple of hours, Justin didn't bask too long in the quiet of the middle of the lake.  He paddled back to shore and gave the younger two girls a ride.

They thought it was pretty cool.

Then he let the big girls take it for a ride.  One of them had a hard time figuring out the rhythm of the paddles.

"This boat is broken!" she declared.

A well-earned graduation present to himself.
Here's to many  moments of peace and contemplation--a rare thing in our big, noisy family.

  1. VERY cool! I totally get the desire he has. I think it was one of the main reasons we had a sailboat for so many years.

We are sure proud of him. AND of you. You are wonderful people!

    What lake is that anyway?
